THINGS TO DO

SEE & DO
Costa Nova

A visit to the truely unique Costa Nova beach is a must, where you can admire the vast expanse of golden sand and blue water. Also, take note of the palheiros – pretty wooden houses painted in candy stripes – which give Costa Nova a distinctive, colourful quality, adding character to the whole area.

We can recommend eating at Peixe Na Costa. 'The restaurant is located a a short walk from the main strip, but it's definitely worth the 10 minute walk. Everything is prepared freshly local produce. The specialty is fish with the fish cataplana near perfection.'

Aveiro

Uncover the captivating charm of the “Venice of Portugal”, Aveiro is a small town boasting winding canals and quaint whitewashed houses. It is worth taking a  on a Moliceiro (traditional canal boat) to learn about its history and culture from your guide.  Absorb the rich maritime heritage of delightful bridges and enchanting pathways as you're taken to the charming Old Quarter. Wander through meandering streets and pass by notable landmarks, including the Cathedral of Aveiro and the Church of St John the Evangelist.

We can recommend eating at Tasca do Sal. 'Tasca do Sal  is a charming little tapas bar overlooking the main waterway. We had the Pratas do Dia: a squid and white bean stew, slow cooked overnight and skewered chicken, moist chargrilled and wrapped in smoky bacon. The fish is so fresh you can see the market where it was purchased. '

Arouca Geopark

The Geopark is a  short drive to Arouca village, The hiking trails are well signposted,  head for the wooden stairs to photograph the amazing canyon and the agricultural fields. Below is the river  with pleasantly cool  little waterfalls and lots of beautiful shimmering pebbles and quartz.

We can recommend taking walking shoes and sun hats!
